WAYS OF VIEWING EDUCATION

The slippery nature of education has necessitated three major approaches to the concept of education:
Education as a Process: Peters described education as “a process of initiation” Here education is not seen as something abstract, away from the people. It is an activity preserves, develops and transmits the culture of a nation. It is the process of socializing the child into the norms and expectation of his people and culture.
Education as a Product: it is also seen as the expectation or the end in view of education; what education ought to accomplish in an individual. What is the goal of education is very much debative. But suffice it to say here that educated man should be intellectual and morally viable to the society.
Education as a Discipline: Another way of using the term-education is to use it to refer to that “body of systematic and organized knowledge” This body of knowledge is not arbitrarily packaged, it is arranged having some end in view. The discipline of education for a medical doctor enables him or her to grasp the basics of medical treatment, and that of teacher will be for a better understanding of the classroom and a better teaching skill.
